NEW YORK — The Peter G. Peterson Foundation will convene the 2015 Fiscal Summit: Opportunity for America on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC. The Foundation’s sixth-annual Fiscal Summit will bring together leading experts and policymakers to explore the economic and fiscal opportunity in America at this key transitional moment.
The economic recovery is finally taking hold and current deficits are down from the record highs of the recession. At the same time, far too many American families are being left out of the recovery, and our nation still faces an unsustainable long-term fiscal outlook. In this context — with progress made, but serious work still to be done — speakers and panelists at the Summit will discuss America’s opportunity to set a path for long-term fiscal sustainability and economic growth.
The Peterson Foundation’s Fiscal Summit assembles voices from across the political and ideological spectrum — including elected officials, business leaders, economic experts, and members of the media — to address the key economic and fiscal issues facing the United States. The 2015 Fiscal Summit: Opportunity for America will focus on the need and the opportunity to strengthen America’s fiscal foundation, in order to build a prosperous and inclusive economy for the next generation.
As a key part of the day’s activities, the Foundation will reveal the results of Solutions Initiative III, a unique research project that brings together individuals from policy organizations across the ideological spectrum to put forth their own comprehensive fiscal solutions. Experts from five leading organizations — the American Action Forum, the American Enterprise Institute, the Bipartisan Policy Center, the Center for American Progress, and the Economic Policy Institute — each developed specific, “scoreable” policy proposals to set the federal budget on a sustainable, long-term path for prosperity and economic growth.
