Ads are available at http://www.pgpf.org/debate

NEW YORK (October 10, 2011) – The Peter G. Peterson Foundation (PGPF) today announced that it will air a series of informational ads as part of its broadcast sponsorship of the October 11 Bloomberg/Washington Post Republican Presidential Debate to raise voter awareness about the nation’s fiscal and economic issues. The ads will feature children highlighting salient budget facts and the unsustainable future they will face if today’s leaders take no action.

The ads, available at http://www.pgpf.org/debate, will be broadcast on Bloomberg TV and Radio and Bloomberg.com. The ads focus on the future costs of failing to address America’s long-term fiscal challenges and raise awareness of the need for both parties to agree on a plan to strengthen our economy today while putting America on a more sustainable long-term fiscal path. The informational ads will include a closing message from former Democratic Senator Bill Bradley and former Republican Senator Judd Gregg.

“As a nonpartisan foundation, we believe it is vitally important to provide Americans with opportunities to learn about how the nation’s leaders and potential leaders plan to address our fiscal and economic challenges,” said Peter G. Peterson, Chairman of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation. “This sponsorship provides an important opportunity to put forward some of the important facts about the nation’s debt and its effect on our economy, both today and for future generations.”

The hour-and-a-half debate will feature all of the leading Republican presidential candidates and will be the first GOP primary debate to focus solely on economic issues. The debate, which will be broadcast live from 8:00pm to 9:30pm EST on Bloomberg Television, Bloomberg Radio and via livestream on Bloomberg.com and WashingtonPost.com, will be moderated by Charlie Rose, Washington Post political correspondent Karen Tumulty and Bloomberg TV White House correspondent Julianna Goldman.

The debate will be conducted in a roundtable format with candidates sitting side-by-side with the moderators, surrounded by the audience. This unique debate format is intended to foster an interactive discussion between the candidates on their economic and fiscal policies.

PGPF’s broadcast sponsorship is part of a broader initiative to generate a bipartisan discussion of America’s long-term economic and fiscal challenges throughout the 2012 election cycle.
